The Ronald McDonald Foundation for Children Italy is a charity associated with Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC), an international organization operated by the food giant, which has been been helping families deal with the difficult experience of a child's hospitalization since 1974. Present in 64 countries worldwide, RMHC provides help and support to almost 6 million children and families each year.
It is within this context that the Foundation decided to help the Vittore Buzzi Children’s Hospital in Milan, which has been known as an top provider of specialized maternal and pediatric medical care for over a century. With a donation of almost € 90,000, the Foundation wanted to modernize the Guaita Pavilion, which serves as the entrance, waiting area, and transit area for hundreds of families who bring their children in for treatment.
In order to outfit the area in a way that would provide entertainment for the children, the Foundation involved our team in the project, along with Kenfoster Building Retail, a production and services company operating on the retail installations market.
Due to the Guaita Pavilion’s high level of traffic, our idea was to create a gathering point where children could enjoy both playtime and relaxation, thanks to the engagement of an interactive digital touchscreen station.
Working with our partners, we developed the environment for the renovated pavilion, with the interactive Multi-Touch table being positioned in such a way that it doesn’t hinder the flows of traffic, and constitutes a sort of playful parenthesis within the context of the hospital.
The table itself features a personalized suite of touch games capable of engaging multiple children simultaneously, offering both individual and group challenges. In terms of shape and color, the interactive table’s structure was designed to be incorporated into a child-friendly environment.
The interactive table was assembled and optimized for use in public areas, in compliance with the strictest safety regulations. The work carried out at the renovated pavilion saw our team engaged in the device’s positioning and its connection to the software infrastructure, in order to facilitate its management.
After the testing phase, everything was ready for the inauguration.
On April 4, 2019, the entirely renovated Guaita Pavilion was officially opened to the public, in the presence of the local authorities and Fabio Massimo Calabrese, the President of the Ronald McDonald Foundation for Children Italy.
His words reflect our own sentiments: “We’re extremely proud to be collaborating with the hospital and supporting the families and children of this great city. We’re glad to have had the opportunity to support an important facility like Milan’s Buzzi Hospital.”
